Life is like flapjack
I'm not quite sure how life is like flapjack, but I made chocolate flapjack in food tech today. It’s quite ridiculously gooey (I have a feeling that happened last time I cooked flapjack) but it tastes delicious. It’s in the fridge at the moment because it needs to set but I keep sneaking tiny little pieces. It looks like mice have been at it. Mm, yum yum.

I'm supposed to be doing geography homework at the moment. It was due in earlier today but I forgot to put it all together so I told my teacher a tale about why all our technology is broken at the moment and she said I could email it to her.

I stayed late tonight for F1. A bloke from the Navy came in to talk to us about aerodynamics. I can't believe he actually did a degree in that stuff! It's amazingly confusing. How I'm supposed to design a car that incorporates it all I really have no idea...

I'm sure life's like flapjack, though.

Mother's day
So, over 'ere in the good ol' UK, today is mother's day.

We didn't do a lot to celebrate. I gave my mum a toblerone (last of the big spenders) and we walked down to the local castle. Yeah, we have a local castle...it's pretty pathetic, though. It's a total ruin. It is right next to the canal, though. I adore canals. Absolutely freakin' love 'em. We go on a canal boat holiday ever year and it's the best time ever. I love how they're so relaxed and lazy and windy and modern and yet full of history at the same time and how everyone on them is really nice to you and I love that little something else that I can't quite put my finger on.

I remember when you used to be able to go right up to the castle and walk around the inside. We used to go all the time. There was a big stone in the middle and you could go and sit on it and look out through all the windows and imagine all the people living there way back when. Then they put a fence round it and put up loads of big red DANGER: FALLING MASONRY signs so you could only walk round the edges and you couldn't see in properly because the fence was too far away. Now the whole thing has scaffolding round it and they're replastering it all because apparently the flint core is being eroded and the whole castle's going to wash away. It's really sad; it looks totally different. It's a different colour from how it was before and it looks really modern, not like the whimsical ruin it used to be. I hope they open it back up so that you can go into the middle and sit on the stone again. I don't think we'll go so much now, though. They've spoiled it.

We walked right down to the tunnel and looked in. There was a boat inside it. Most of the canal isn't navigable and it's really shallow and the tunnel is full of weeds and things. That's sad too...they'll never restore it because it doesn't really go anywhere any more and they built over where one end used to be and it would cost too much to restore the tunnel. I love all canals, no matter whether they're navigable or not, and there's something very sweet about a canal that's always going to be deserted. What was that word? There's a Russian word that means a sort of glorified sadness...that's the word I'm looking for. For which I am looking, even.

My grandma came over and we had a Chinese takeaway and we ate a cake that I made. The cake was a bit of a failure and the takeaway wasn't that nice (pity we didn't get an Indian: we have the greatest tandoori in the world round here) but oh well. Such is life...

Gymnastics
Well, went to gymnastics today, like I generally do on Saturdays. I haven't been for the last two weeks (was ill last week and away on holiday the week before), so it was really good to get back.

We had a really good time. We did trampolining to start off with, and I just went over what I already know and can do. Then I did some dropbacks and my friend and I tried to get my other friend to do some, which was pretty fun. She's really underconfident in herself. Admittedly, she's pretty rubbish at gym, but she's capable of doing stuff if she doesn't give up straight away. After that we went back to trampolining and I had a few goes at doing some flips, which was quite scary because at the end of the day I'm a wimp. Right at the end I got Jodie to help me with roundoffs. Yeah, I'm pretty crap at gym, but at the end of the day, I enjoy it.

Still wish I was better, though.
